How Frequency-Selective Gating Works
Standard gates reduce the entire signal once the input falls below the threshold. Gatey Watey adds frequency selective attenuation, so you decide which bands are turned down when the level drops. Boz Digital Labs says this avoids the cut-off effect that makes many gates sound unnatural.
In practice, this means you can reduce high-hat bleed in a snare track while leaving the snare's ring intact, or keep distorted guitar sustain while suppressing hum-related noise from other sources. You set which frequencies to attenuate and by how much.
