01Overview

Ampknob Duet is an amp simulator from Bogren Digital, inspired by a classic 1960s amp associated with jazz, blues, surf rock, classic country and 70s funk. Its focus is clean tone. The developer describes it as pristine and resistant to distortion, so overdrive requires pushing the input hard. The plugin also responds well to pedal-style boosts, fuzz and compression, and it includes vintage-style modulation and reverb effects alongside three matched cabinets.

Clean tone and pedal-friendly character

Duet is voiced for clean sound. Bogren Digital says it adds dimension to every note and needs to be driven hard to reach overdrive. The attack is tactile and immediate, which means playing dynamics and mistakes are clearly audible.

The amp is designed to take pedal-style input. Fuzz, compression and clean boosts can be placed in front of it, and the developer describes the emulated tubes as responding the way a real pedal platform would.

Effects, cabinets and the IRDX cabinet engine

The FX page includes spring reverb, a tremolo inspired by tube bias behavior, and a studio room ambience. A stereo room sound is also included for an amp-in-the-room feel.

Three cabinets are included: one matched to the amp and two alternatives. The cabinet section uses Bogren Digital's IRDX technology, which adds a dynamic response to the included speaker models. IRDX also applies to any cabinet IR you load, so you can use your own IRs from Bogren IR packs or other sources.

Standalone mode and built-in tools

Duet is also available as a standalone application, so you can play or practice without opening your DAW. The standalone version includes a metronome and a riff recorder, which captures ideas as sound files that can be dragged into your DAW later.

Both the plugin and standalone versions include a tuner and a noise gate.
