01Overview

Ampknob BDM 800 - Badboy is part of Bogren Digital's Ampknob series, built around a high-gain amp that the developer presents as a classic 80s-era tone source. The plugin covers both rhythm and lead sounds in one instrument. A lead preset with delay and reverb is one switch away, so guitarists can move from riff to solo without rebuilding the signal chain. The series is designed to be quick to set up, keeping the focus on playing rather than tweaking.

Amp Tone, Cabinets and Built-In FX

The developer describes the BDM 800 Badboy as an amp from the personal collection of guitarist Euge Valovirta, with military-grade 6550 tubes and a custom 140-watt transformer. The plugin's character is shaped by that hardware reference, and the developer says it covers both classic rhythm tones and lead tones.

The cabinet section offers Modern, Vintage and Lead cabinet choices. You can also load your own impulse response (IR) for a different speaker sound. Clicking the front panel's FX tab opens extra settings for fine-tuning the reverb and delay.

Turning the FX switch on and selecting the Lead cab gives a lead tone with delay and reverb already in place.

Ampknob Series Workflow and IRDX Cab Response

Bogren Digital says the three Ampknob BDM plugins are easy to use and aim to provide a distraction-free route to finished sounds. The developer credits Jens Bogren's 20+ years of experience for the amp sound designs.

The cabinet section uses Bogren Digital's IRDX technology. According to the developer, IRDX adds a dynamic response to the included speaker models. It also applies to any cabinet IR you load, so custom IRs respond more vividly than in a standard IR loader.

The plugin is available as Standalone, VST3, AU and AAX on Windows 10 or newer and macOS 10.13 or newer, with native support for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
