Aegean Drums is a percussion library focused on Mediterranean hand drums, recorded from live performances by world percussionist Stefanos Athinaios. It covers five instruments with several articulations and round robins for natural variation. The library captures bendir, daf, darbuka, davul and riq as playable percussion sources. Each instrument includes a range of articulations, among them dums, teks, slaps, trills, jingles, mutes and wood hits.
Three velocity layers with three round robins per velocity keep repeated hits from sounding mechanical. The sound combines close, punchy microphones with stereo condenser microphones for a wider, more organic character.
The library includes 85 presets, covering full kits, hybrid kits, pitched percussion, trailer hits, dark pulses, swells, tails and FX. These give a starting point for both rhythmic and textural layers.
The package also includes 123 MIDI files in cinematic, trailer, game, ritual, electronic, house and traditional rhythm categories. Stefanos Athinaios draws on Middle-Eastern, Balkan, Mediterranean, ethnic, jazz-fusion and world music influences, which shape the rhythmic material.
