01Overview

Colorwoods Piano is built from recordings of an upright piano, captured with six microphones in several positions. The developer describes the sound as natural and serene, with the ability to become powerful and crisp when pushed. Each microphone position has its own gain control, so you can shape the tone by choosing which mics contribute to the sound. The plugin supports 64-bit hosts on both Windows and macOS.

Microphone Positions and Tone Shaping

ZAK Sound recorded the piano with six microphones: a centered large-diaphragm condenser, a pair of small-diaphragm condensers in XY, another pair of small-diaphragm condensers in the front position, and a dynamic microphone.

With all mic positions active, the sound is full. Each position has a separate gain knob, so you can blend the mics to get a softer, more relaxed tone or a more forceful one by emphasizing the stronger microphones.

The Tone section adds High range and width controls to adjust brightness and stereo spread.

Envelope, Modulation and Filters

The envelope offers Attack, sustain, decay and release controls for shaping how each note starts and fades.

The Settings section includes curve selection and playback modes: polyphonic, monophonic and legato. Legato mode comes with a glide control. Gain, pan and ambience controls round out the section.

Wave FX provides an LFO with several waveforms and depth and speed controls. Lowpass and highpass filters let you trim the low and high ends of the sound.
