Sound, Recording Setup and Microphone Perspectives
XLN Audio recorded Studio Grand in a large studio at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation, which the developer describes as very quiet and acoustically controlled. The piano was captured with rare vintage tube and ribbon microphones, including a Neumann M269, a Coles 4038, an RCA 6203, a Neumann M250 and a Sela T25.
The six perspectives run from close positions next to the soundboard to distant room ambience. Mixing and matching them lets you shape how much room and body the piano has in a track, which is useful because a grand piano can be hard to fit alongside other instruments and vocals.
