01Overview

String Flow Cello captures a bowing technique in which the player rapidly rolls the bow across the strings, producing a rich, chordal texture rather than a single sustained line. Developer Ben Osterhouse built the instrument around that sound so producers can add driving harmonic string parts without recording the performance themselves. It runs inside Kontakt and is aimed at producers who want cello textures with a rhythmic, energetic character.

Playing Chords in a Set Key

The first way to play is the simplest. Choose the chord type and the key, then play on the white keys. Each note you play selects a harmony that fits the key you picked.

The developer compares this approach to the Harmonize factory scripts in Kontakt. The difference is that every harmony in String Flow Cello was recorded manually, so the results are performed cello voicings rather than generated intervals.

Recorded Chords and Included MIDI Clips

The second method offers more control and requires more familiarity with the instrument. When you play a chord that has been recorded, the instrument plays that chord on the cello.

The included MIDI clips show which chords work, giving you a practical starting point for building your own parts.
