01Overview

Henchman is built around three processing bands. The mid and high bands offer fifteen exciter, saturation and distortion modes, each with mid/side processing and its own compressor. The low band focuses on harmonic saturation for bass weight. A brickwall limiter sits at the end of the chain to raise overall level. Rankin Audio positions the plugin as a tool for adding size and punch to a mix while keeping it controlled.

Multiband Saturation and Compression Controls

Henchman splits your signal into three bands so each frequency range can be shaped on its own. The mid and high bands include fifteen exciter, saturation and distortion modes, which change how harmonics are added to the signal. Each band has mid/side processing and a dedicated compressor, so you can adjust width, tone and transient punch in specific parts of the spectrum.

The low band handles weight. Its harmonic saturation adds overtones that help bass remain audible on small speakers and phone playback, which is useful when a mix is checked on limited playback systems.

Visual feedback shows pre- and post-compression waveforms, so gain reduction can be set against what the signal is actually doing rather than by ear alone.

Typical Uses for Drums, Bass, Vocals and Masters

Henchman is aimed at producers who want more density and presence from individual sources and buses. On kicks and 808s, the low-band saturation can add harmonic content that carries through smaller speakers. On vocals, the mid and high bands can add clarity and presence. A drum bus can be glued together with the per-band compressors, and synths can gain warmth from the saturation modes.

The built-in brickwall limiter is intended for pushing a master louder while controlling peaks. Five snapshots let you A/B settings or load different presets into each slot to compare approaches without losing your starting point.
