01Overview

DopeSONIX built Bass Engine 2 as an add-on for producers who already own Bass Engine 1. The developer says it focuses on the 808 and vintage analogue-style bass sounds that users requested most. The 300 instruments cover 808s, sub basses, Moog-style subs, futuristic pads, and upright and electric basses. Each patch is processed through a Drawmer 1961 Dual Vacuum Tube Equaliser to add low-end warmth and midrange punch.

808, Sub and Vintage Bass Sounds

The first 150 presets are dedicated to 808 sounds, with deep booming tones and sub-bass content. DopeSONIX says the 808s were designed to hit harder and deeper than other 808 plugins, and that some patches layer 808s with synth stabs and pads for a fuller sound.

The next 75 presets draw on vintage hardware synth sounds, from moody deep tones to short, punchy bleeps. The developer notes that these patches capture a flavour of classic synths rather than reproducing original hardware.

Another 50 presets include dusty uprights, a classic jazz bass, deep dub-style basses and a selection of live bass instruments. The final 25 presets are pure sub-bass patches and sub-bass layers with pads, stabs and textures.

Playing and Controlling the Instrument

Each patch offers built-in pitch, pan, glide and volume controls, along with flexible ADSR envelope controls. You can switch between Mono, Poly and Legato playing modes, and choose Soft, Normal or Hard velocity response.

Basslines can be programmed manually or played from a MIDI or USB controller or keyboard, including Native Instruments Maschine, Akai MPD and other common controllers.

DopeSONIX highlights low CPU usage and fast patch loading, which matters on laptops, tablets and lower-spec computers when browsing through the library.
