01Overview

The pack gathers cabinet impulse responses drawn from Tue Madsen's personal collection, recorded with the microphones and signal chain he prefers. The developer describes them as cabinets profiled from the cabs used on top metal albums. The IRs are sorted into Rhythm, Clean and Lead categories, so you can match a cabinet to the part you are tracking or mixing. Sound and Character of the Cabinet IRs

Tue Madsen says his favorite cabinets are all of them, because each one responds differently to the amp and guitar placed in front of it. The developer notes that a cabinet that seems like an unlikely choice can sometimes turn out to be the right one. A Mesa cabinet IR is one Madsen uses often, according to the developer.

The recordings were made with Shure SM57 microphones, a set of ribbon microphones and an AKG 414, which Madsen has used for guitar for years. The developer's advice is to judge the tones by ear rather than by microphone or model names.

Rhythm, Clean and Lead IRs for Mixing

The pack is split into Rhythm, Clean and Lead IRs. Rhythm and Lead sets suit heavier guitar parts, while the Clean set covers lighter playing. Since each IR is already mic'd and EQ'd, you can audition a set of cabinets quickly and keep the ones that fit the arrangement.

The IRs work with any software or hardware impulse response loader, so they can be used in a plugin host or on a dedicated modeler. You will need an amp or simulator upstream of the cabinet to hear the full range of each IR.
