01Overview

This impulse response pack is built around a single speaker cabinet, a Mahler 2x12 made of solid granite. Bogren Digital describes the enclosure as one of only four in existence. The pack captures that cabinet through a high-end recording chain that includes an SSL 6000G console, with the impulses mic'd and EQ'd for use in a mix. You need an IR loader and an amp or simulator to run it.

Sound and Cabinet Character

Bogren Digital says the heavy, rigid enclosure lets more of the speaker driver character come through than lighter cabinets, which tend to add coloration from their wood and construction. The developer frames the Mahler 2x12 as a way to hear the speaker drivers with less enclosure influence.

The impulses were captured by producer and engineer Jakob Herrmann at Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. Herrmann is credited with engineering the pack, and the developer notes he has worked with Anthrax, In Flames and Machine Head.

Using the IRs in a Guitar Chain

The pack contains 39 IRs, so you can compare several captures of the same cabinet and choose the one that suits a part. Each impulse is already microphoned, equalized and tailored for placement in a mix, so it can be used without extensive processing.

Because the pack works with any software or hardware IR loader, it fits into most guitar rigs that accept third-party cabinet impulses. Load an IR after your amp or simulator and adjust the level to match the rest of your chain.
