01Overview

Watchkeeper is a percussion and clockwork sample library built for Kontakt by Keepforest. Its engine is meant to produce rhythmic patterns quickly, covering clock sounds, watches and mechanical elements alongside more conventional percussion. The developer describes it as a set of sound design tools available out of the box, so producers can build intricate patches and trailer rhythms without reaching for other plugins. The library is organized into folders that move from basic patches to layered sounds.

Sound Design and Rhythm Engine

The core of Watchkeeper is a sequencer with a dynamic filter section and a seven-slot FX rack. You can randomize and fine-tune each key parameter of the sequence, and the developer notes an effectively unlimited number of unique patterns.

The KSP module exposes engine parameters for creating variations across multipatches. Sounds can be loaded from your own samples, placed onto the correct rhythmic grid and divided for granular work. Round-robin recordings are included, and loops and created patches contain up to 32 round robins for more natural variation.

Library Contents and Workflow

The library includes 700+ Kontakt patches, 300+ multi-patches, 2000+ snapshots and tones, and 3100+ custom rhythm presets. Loops and one-shots total 1300+ and 800+ respectively, and the WAV folder holds 6100 mastered audio files. There are also 170 stem folders and over 2000 stem loops, sorted by genre and style.

MIDI files can be exported and imported in two clicks, which makes it easier to move rhythms and sequences between DAWs. The layering system and multiple loop playback options are designed to keep CPU and memory load low.
