01Overview

SpecCraft is an EQ-category effects plugin built to find and reduce harsh shrills and muddy booms in a mix. Rather than applying fixed cuts, it adjusts suppression dynamically as the audio changes. The developer also describes a spectrum compensation stage that generates real-time EQ curves to offset the loudness and spectral balance lost during suppression. The plugin is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats.

How SpecCraft Suppresses Resonances

SpecCraft uses a smart amplitude-based threshold that continuously looks for the resonances that need suppression. You can let the threshold adjust automatically, set it manually, or blend the two.

The Spectrum Slope control tilts the display from 0 dB/OCT to 12 dB/OCT, so high and low resonances can be treated evenly against the threshold. A Priority Curve lets you set how much processing applies to each frequency band, and Profiling lets you use a custom frequency curve as the threshold, taken from preset profiles, an audio file, or a live capture.

Keeping Tone and Loudness Intact

Suppressing resonances can leave a spectrum flat and reduce perceived energy. SpecCraft addresses this with Dynamics Compensation, a psychoacoustic stage that restores lost loudness, and Formant Boost, which aims to keep the spectral envelope that gives a sound its character.

Treble Compensation has adjustable intensity. Developer Three-Body Technology describes its use on cymbals to keep presence while reducing harshness, and with no compensation it can work like a de-esser on vocal sibilance.

The plugin also offers a Zero Latency Mode that switches from linear phase to minimum phase filters, for use in live or real-time settings where delay matters.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What is SpecCraft?

SpecCraft is an effects plugin in the EQ category from Three-Body Technology. It works as a dynamic resonance suppressor, spectrum compressor and smart EQ.

Which formats and operating systems does SpecCraft support?

SpecCraft is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats, as 64-bit plugins for Windows and macOS. Its listed system requirements include an Intel or AMD CPU with SSE 4.1 or Apple Silicon, 4GB of RAM and 300MB of disk space.

Can SpecCraft work like a de-esser?

Yes. Treble Compensation can be set to no compensation, and the developer describes this setting as allowing SpecCraft to function like a de-esser on vocal sibilance.

Does SpecCraft add latency?

By default it uses linear phase filters. Its Zero Latency Mode switches to minimum phase filters for zero-latency processing in real-time situations.
