Slate Digital describes SD-3A's compression as fast and program-dependent, meaning the behavior responds to the signal instead of following a fixed curve. The developer says the plugin has a mid-forward voice that adds punch and energy.

The design combines optical and solid-state elements. At lower settings the processing stays clean, and pushing it further adds color and shape. That range makes it usable for gentle smoothing as well as more aggressive dynamic shaping.

The HF / Flat sidechain filter lets you choose whether the detector listens to the full frequency range or a high-frequency-weighted signal, which changes how the compressor reacts to low-end content. The built-in mix control provides a simple way to blend compressed and uncompressed signal without adding a separate bus.
