Sound Design and Engine Layers

Keepforest developed the Risenge engine as a new, CPU-friendly instrument that keeps some of the features of the earlier AizerX engine. The interface uses eight layer units that can be randomized, combined and modified, so one trigger can produce different variations of a build.

The library covers a wide range of textures, including classic, hybrid, engine and motor, mechanical, stutter, orchestral, sci-fi and horror material. The developer also notes that the samples were recorded and sound-designed in-house before being packaged for Kontakt.

Samples are provided at 48 kHz / 24-bit.

Workflow, Controls and Sequencing

The instrument includes an easy-to-use sequencer for placing rises and hits along a timeline, along with an XY pad, LFO and pan functions for movement. The layer randomizing function helps avoid repeating the same rise each time a phrase is triggered.

The interface is minimalistic, which keeps the control set focused on the parameters that shape tension and timing.

For producers who prefer to work outside the instrument, the WAV folder gives direct access to the samples, sorted into categories such as full rises, full suckbacks, hits, drops, build-ups and downfalls, and build-up and downfall stems.
