Vintage Gear Simulation and Nonlinear Character
OwnTHD includes nine classic equipment simulations, each modeled on the nonlinear behavior of the original hardware. Rather than relying on compression to get the sound, it targets the distortion characteristics that give that gear its color.
Each unit's sweet spot is reproduced and can be adjusted. Four drive knobs let you fine-tune harmonic content, and Bias, Feedback and Depth can each be tweaked, including positive and negative Feedback. The developer says this gives more control than the original hardware offers.
The result is a saturation tool that can stay close to a reference character or move well beyond it.
